Troubling Tonsils!

Set up like the old Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone, this reminded me of the episode called “People are Alike All Over”.This is my first book from this series, but if I was a child, I believe I’d find this book terrifying. Maybe this series is meant to be scary? I did attempt to read this to my grandchildren and the story managed to hold the attention of one child, briefly.I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Was expecting a book like Creepy Carrots, Creepy Pair of Underwear, and Creepy Crayon. This is not it. Much smaller than the other books too. I mean it’s ok for kids maybe 2nd or 3rd graders but nothing like the other books. It’s a chapter book and my Kindergartner wasn’t interested in the slightest. Maybe if there were more pictures but it was just meh.

Attention all elementary school teachers and night-time parent readers: This is THE ONE, the scary (yet safe) book for you to grab this Halloween season! It is book 4 in Jasper Rabbit’s Creepy Tales series by Aaron Reynolds, and in my humble opinion, it is THE BEST!It is filled with aliens, scary tonsils, and things that go bump in the night! Charlie’s tonsils are infected and have to come out. He would love to stick them in a jar after the operation to bring them to school for show and tell. But be careful about the best laid plans. They have a tendency to backfire!Brilliantly crafted with all the oohhs and aahhs of Halloween delight, and filled with mysterious undertones, this book will have children asking to read it over and over again. It is the perfect book to introduce this spectacular time of the year.

My soon-to-be 4 year old loves the Creepy series (Carrots, Underwear, and Crayon) so when I saw this book was available for pre-order I had to buy it. I, however, didnt realize the suggested age was 6-9 years old. 100% my bad. But when we got the book in today, my son asked to read it right away. No dinner, no snack, no watching TV first. He immediately wanted to read it. So we read a chapter to get him used to the idea of chapter books. And he loved it!We always read 1 or 2, but usually 4-5 stories a night before bed. Tonight he wanted to finish this story. So, we did.Who am I to say no?These stories are so well written and beautifully drawn. You can really get the influence from The Twilight Zone through them. I am hoping he will continue to ask to read it. It is fun and I can't wait to hear him read this to me one day.But note for future me - don't get books that are too old for his age. 😅
